The project "Global Survey on Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS)" is a streamlining and amplification of existing data collection processes for market data on Voluntary Sustainability Standards (VSS) of the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD), the International Trade Centre (ITC), and the Research Institute of Organic Agriculture (FiBL). The project started in 2014.
The activities are funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).
Collecting timely and accurate market data on VSS to facilitate policy and investment decisions is a key priority for policy makers, market actors and donors. In order to ensure continued reporting on the most accurate, useful and relevant data available while avoiding duplication of data requests and effort, IISD’s State of Sustainability Initiatives (SSI), ITC and FiBL had partnered for joint data collection efforts.
The data is used to feed the public ITC database on www.sustainabilitymap.org, and the production of the annual publication "The State of Sustainable Markets 2019: Statistics and Emerging Trends". Furthermore, the team will use it to provide aggregate statistics and trends on markets.
